A CNN team on the ground saw ongoing fierce combat between Ukrainian and Russian soldiers in the eastern region of Bakhmut.
The majority of the fire appeared to be focused towards Russian soldiers to the south and north of the city, according to CNN, which observed significant indirect fire coming from Ukrainian positions on the slopes west of Bakhmut.
According to reports, Wagner Group troops from Russia are advancing from all flanks in an effort to encircle the city, which is still home to 6,000 residents.
The Ukrainian president and his team continue to pay close attention to the situation at the front as Bakhmut remains a significant focal point of the battle.
According to a statement from his office on Thursday, “President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy convened a normal meeting of the Staff of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief.” Participants in the discussion in-depth addressed the situation in the Bakhmut sector after hearing reports from operational directing commanders on the situation at the front.
