More than 300 billion text messages and 8 billion voice messages are sent through the app by more than 3 billion daily active users.

Meta-owned chat app now brings new improvements and features that you should enjoy this year.

Post updates from linked devices WhatsApp fixed the issue of only showing status updates from linked devices by adding the ability to post from companion devices.

This feature allows you to edit or delete status updates (voice, GIF, text, video/photo) from the secondary device.

Host watch parties WhatsApp now lets you share your phone screen, including video and audio, during a video call, meaning you can now host watch parties .

New way to post status updates WhatsApp has simplified the way to post status updates by moving the floating action buttons from bottom to top next to the status title.

This makes it easier to navigate the app without accidentally pressing buttons.

Pin messages in chats This handy feature lets you pin messages to the top of conversations in chats for quick access – a feature that Slack and Telegram already have.

This is different from pinning actual discussions to the top of the discussions tab in the app.

Lock chats more securely with a passcode For those who want to keep their chats even more private, you can now use a unique password to lock your chats by tapping and keep the chat in the chat list, then press the Lock button.

Send high quality photos and videos of your status This is WhatsApp’s best new feature when it comes to sharing videos and photos of your status.

You can send high-resolution media through the app and this feature is now available on status updates.

There’s an HD icon on the status edit tab that lets you switch between standard definition and high definition quality for the videos and photos you share.

Send one-view audio messages In addition to one-view images and videos, WhatsApp now supports one-view audio messages.

The receiver can only play the sound once.

It should be noted that these view-once audio messages are end-to-end encrypted.

Additionally, you cannot forward or monitor these messages.

Instagram-style status update reply interface There is now a fixed reply bar on the Status feature for quick replies instead of having to do the extra step of swiping and replying.

Meta is trying to unify the design of its apps, and it’s no surprise that you’ll soon be able to post your fleeting status updates to Instagram Stories, so this design change makes a lot of sense.

Search based on username. You can set your own username, making it easier to find accounts to add instead of using phone numbers.
