Hailie Jade and ‘bruncle’ Nate Mathers remember Eminem’s ascent to fame when they were kids.
Nathan Kane Mathers, Eminem’s younger brother, sat down for a rare interview with niece Hailie Jade Mathers for her podcast Just a Little Shady.
Nate was presented as Hailie’s ‘bruncle’ in the podcast since they “sort of grew up together” because he lived with them for a spell when Hailie was small and was considerably younger than her father.
They spoke about growing up together and traveled down memory lane. During the interview, the two discussed how Slim Shady’s popularity affected them differently.
“You were probably 12 when [Eminem] became popular, so I was what, 2? “See, that’s probably why our experiences were so different, since I remember some things from before, but I didn’t really grasp what was going on, but you were obviously old enough to understand,” Haile said.
Nate remembers getting a “reality check” when he watched Eminem all over the TV, as well as during his gigs when fans went “wild” for autographs.
One thing they both agreed on was how amazing the rapper, 50, was at being a father figure.
When asked about being a parent, he stated that he changed his life for his three children. Hailie agreed and made a parallel with her own father.
Eminem had Hailie while he was young, and “a lot of people were scared that he wasn’t going to be a decent parent or anything,” Hailie said.
“Oh, sure, I mean going off the lyrics and everything – I could see it,” Nate replied. He was the finest role model I could have asked for to help me become the father I am today.”
